Specifics

In response to the educational needs of the Iu Mien Community, the Lao Iu Mien Culture Association, Inc. (LIMCA) formed the Iu Mien Scholarship Fund (IMSF) in 1997 with the purpose of providing financial support for Iu Mien students in pursuit of higher education, as well as to inspire and motivate Iu Mien youth to take leadership roles in their community.
 
This year, IMSF will award five scholarships of $1,000 to college and/or trade school-bound Iu Mien high school seniors and G.E.D. students.   Graduating seniors and G.E.D. students who demonstrate financial need, academic excellence, and leadership qualities are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications and Criteria  
1. Applicant must be a graduating high school or G.E.D. student in California;
2. Applicant must be an Iu Mien American youth;
3. Applicant must plan to attend a university, a junior college, or a vocational/certification program start-
ing Fall 2014;
4. Applicant must have an academic record of 2.80 GPA or above, or G.E.D. score of 250 or higher;
5. Applicant must return completed application packet, which includes the following:
 * Completed application
 * Official High School Transcript
 * Typed or printed essay (two pages/500 words)
 * One letter of recommendation from an administrator, teacher, counselor, mentor, community member, employer, or peer.  
6. Qualified applicant will go through a panel interview in Oakland, CA
