The Rene Matos Memorial Scholarhsip was established in the name of a very motivated and dedicated man, who moved up in the ranks to become a top manager at the WIlliam J. Hughes Technical Center in New Jersey. He was then NHCFAE President from 1989-1992. His sole purpose was to see other Hispanics succeed. We honored his deram by establishing a scholarship in his name.

BASIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  •  Must be a US Citizen or a permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico.
  • Applicants must be accepted or attending an accredited college, university, or vocational/trade school at the time the scholarship is awarded.
  • Applications postmarked later than the expiration will not be accepted.  Faxed applications will not be accepted.
  • The NHCFAE Scholarship Selection Committee evaluates applicants on the following criteria:
    • Financial Need
    • Academic Achievement
    • Student Activities
    • Honors/Awards
    • Community Involvement
    • Leadership
    • Personal Qualities and Strengths
  • All decisions by the Scholarship Selection Committee are FINAL.

Application can be downloaded online and then filled out. Students must fill out the FAFSA, submit an official transcript and have their GPA computed based on a 4.0 scale. They must have a letter of recommendation as well. Candidates are rated on curriculuar activities, leadership posititons, extracurricular activities, and community activities. The higher the GPA, the more points will be earned, and the lower the income, the more points will be earned. Selected applicants will have their names published in the NHCFAE's Annual Conference Program.
