As a first-generation Latina, I am forever grateful for programs like EBC that aided me in the application process and ultimately made it possible for me to attend UC Berkeley, my dream college, and graduate with a degree. In high school, I had difficulty applying to colleges independently since there was no one in my family to look at for help. I luckily found aid in a program that was similar to EBC in which I was able to go to college advisors for free help and assistance in revising my essays and helping me apply for federal aid. Being able to participate in EBC was so special to me as it allowed me to give back to students with similar backgrounds as me and provide the same assistance I was lucky enough to get. If it were not for programs like EBC, I sincerely believe I would not have been able to get through applying to colleges and financial aid on my own. While working as a college advisor I was able to see the joy on student’s faces as they expressed that they got into the colleges of their dreams. It was moments like these that have made me so proud to be an EBC alumna.
